Avoid 404 error messages and therefore interrupted navigation.
Possible technical solutions:
Make certain that the tool that is being used to generate content has a system for coherently managing links.
If this is not the case, use a link checker regularly on alll the pages of the site.

Use a link checker like the one proposed by the W3C : http://validator.w3.org/checklink/
