Best Practice N°32- Level1- Section files for download
Description
The format (file extension or corresponding software) of downloadable files is stated.
Objectives
Enables users to know if their tools will allow them to open the downloadable files; Reduce demands on the server by avoiding pointless downloads.
Possible technical solutions:
Provide at least a page stating the file format if there is only one. Or state the format of each file near the link from which it is downloaded.
Control methods:
Check that file formats are given either textually or graphically. (three letter extension or software reader name.)
